By Orklord on Oct 20, 2009 in Canon Puncture Actual Play, Play Reports, Rich's Journal, The Canon Puncture Show
Welcome back to Canon Puncture Actual Play!
In this episode the newly created Inspectres continue investigating their first job. This is from an Inspectres game run by Rich Rogers at a Jacksonville con called Rapier Con.
The players are Desiree, Seth, Chris and Roy (Seth has to leave the game early during this episode; Telka will be introduced in the next).

Love the show, great actual play session. I’m looking at picking up the game solely from this recording. It might fill a system nitch for Con Games that Amorphous Blob Games runs.
As for advice:
It’s important that the GM maintain control of the Con Game. Much more so than a home session. Now before anyone gets to hatin’ on me, let me explain. At a Con these people have paid money to be at your event, an event you host. And while it’s partially their responsibility to bring their game and have fun, you have a responsibility to attempt to provide an equal amount of game to all players.
In this play session you have an obvious prima donna player. It’s great that he’s so enthusiastic about playing the game, but he steps way out of line by narrating other player’s actions and stories. A good way to hamper this activity to go around the table one player at a time. Try to provide each player with the same amount of time, maybe more one time and less the next. But everyone should have that opportunity to add to the story. And if someone starts stating what another’s character does, at the very least ask that player if that’s what they want their character to do.

Seriously, a 20 minute actual play episode? Barely got back into it and then it ended. Make the next one longer!

@elindsay: Thanks for the feedback about handling the prima donna type player. I realize things were out of hand and I was too passive in trying to share time amongst the entire group. Your suggestion about going around the table is a good one. As for a player stating another’s actions, I missed that during the game. I have to say I’m shocked I let that slide and rather disappointed.
@Archer: For the AP episodes, I have a cap at half an hour (self-imposed) to keep the show digestible. Since the Inspectres game was pretty short, I only had about 40ish minutes of AP left, so I found a good halfway point and snipped there. On one hand, sorry if the length frustrated you. On the other, I’m happy to hear you want more!

Definitely a compliment more than an insult Orklord! This actual play has me running an Inspectres game for my own group on Sunday. Thanks for the quality work!

@Archer, how did your Inspectres game go?

I want to add my thanks for posting this. I had heard of the game, but this series of actual play is what helped me make the leap into purchasing the PDF. I’m going to try and test it soon with my boys and hope to run a game of it at a local con in the new year.
Thanks again for a great show.

@Orklord, game went great. Actually a really quick system for a seasoned group that utilizes team work. 5 missions in one 4 hour session that ultimately ended with them taking down a giant psychokinetic powered chupacabra mother whose nest they destroyed earlier in the session.
Half the players dug the freedom of being able to “tell” the story and half wanted me to tell that what happened next for most of the game. Good game for one go round every year or so.
Did also get another group at our local gaming store interested in the game since we were non stop laughing and they were boringly dungeon crawling.
